From
the August 2003 issue of Resource Roundup…
From My Desk
Last month, I quit my government job. Just before I
left, we all received an e-mail from the D.C. office. That missive stated:
“Throughout the year USDA recognizes various groups as part of its great
employee tapestry which is and should be a representation of the American
society in general. Examples of such celebrated groups include Hispanics,
African Americans, Persons With Disabilities, American Indians and Alaska
Natives, Asian American and Pacific Islanders, Women, and other groups, all of
which are included in the Secretary’s EEO statement as protected minority
classes. In June, USDA celebrates its diversity by observing Gay and
Lesbian Pride Month and by recognizing gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender
employees for their contributions. Sexual Orientation is also a class listed in
the Secretary’s EEO statement. (Emphasis added.)
“Many times gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender
employees are not easily identified as such because they are afraid to let
fellow employees truly know them for fear of retribution or discrimination
because of their sexual orientation. No employee should have to be afraid to
hide their true identity within their work space! (I think this was meant to
read: No employee should have to hide their true identity...) Next week (on
June 11th) USDA will hold a Gay and Lesbian Pride Celebration in the Jefferson
Auditorium... Office employees are encouraged to attend the USDA Pride event.
Field offices across the nation are encouraged to sponsor their own Gay and
Lesbian Pride Month observations...)”
That e-mail really shocked me. I had been irritated
before by USDA’s ‘celebration’ of Black History Month and the e-mails that
informed of scholarships available only to Hispanics, etc. I had wondered what
kind of use of the government e-mail system would be allowed to someone who
wanted to inform people about a Whites Only scholarship program. Of course that
wouldn’t be allowed in this politically-correct world, just as there can be a
Negro College Fund but not a White College Fund.
Please don’t get me wrong. I’m not trying to be
racist here, but I look at all of these events and programs and what I see is
not diversity but division. In a country that is supposed to be a ‘melting
pot’ of different races, nationalities, and ethnic groups, we are dividing
everyone by recognizing and giving preferential treatment to many groups. We are
increasing that division by labeling everyone -- Asian Americans, African
Americans, etc. For Pete’s sake, we should all just be Americans. If that
isn’t first and foremost, then return to Asia, or Africa, or wherever.
Unfortunately, many minority leaders not only perpetuate but increase this
feeling of division. Like environist groups, they must have crises to make
money.
But this Gay and Lesbian Pride Month e-mail literally
blew me away. I personally don’t care if someone is gay or lesbian. That is
their business. Or it was, until activists became so ‘in your face’ at the
D.C. march several years ago when I happened to be in the city, and until they
started passing out literature and having ‘Gay Pride’ days in schools,
becoming blatant and even militant. Until all of that started, my main problem
with homosexuality was that they co-opted a beautiful word, gay, to describe
themselves. But I have absolutely no desire to participate in a Gay and Lesbian
Pride Month or to celebrate such a lifestyle. And it sickened me that my
government would promote such a celebration. As a sideline, I also wouldn’t
want to celebrate a Heterosexual Day. The government has no place in promoting
sexual lifestyles of any kind.
USDA has hundreds of thousands of employees, if not
more. I wondered why some of them don’t rise up and say: ‘We won’t
celebrate this,’ because I believe that a majority of them don’t want to.
And then I realized that we have become so politically-correct that we don’t
want to be seen as the unenlightened, racist, evil person who opposes
‘diversity and tolerance.’ We want to keep our jobs. We don’t want to make
waves.
Throughout history, nations that accepted and promoted
homosexuality have gone down the tubes. When people become so ‘tolerant’
that they accept deviances as normal, the moral fiber of the country begins to
unravel. Nations divided into different ethnic groups don’t do too well,
either, spending much of their time in verbal or actual warfare.
This country was built upon Christian principles, but
that doesn’t mean that you must be a Christian to enjoy its bounty. The
principles themselves, however, are a large part of what has made our country
great.
We don’t have to tolerate blatant homosexuality. We
don’t have to be tolerate an environmental dogma that tries to heap guilt upon
us for making money, or harvesting forests, or mining the land, or keeping cows.
We don’t have to tolerate programs that create dependence on the government,
or trample our Constitutional rights, or increase the federal lands estate, or
preach diversity but create division. We don’t have to tolerate courses in our
public schools that teach that Islam is superior to Christianity, or that worms
are equal to boys, or that any answer is correct as long as it increases ‘self
esteem.’
It’s time to say “Enough!” In America, we
are the government. Let’s start acting like it! Begin today to take part in
your government and to steer it the right way!

Their
Goal
But the goal of Leftists... is to “deconstruct” the
West, capitalism, private property, individualism, and any system of belief such
as religion that might impede the transfer of total power over all things and
people to the government. To achieve this in a morally disarmed society, they
need not propose or win support for alternatives. All they need to do is tear
our old-fashioned values, institutions and rights down...
